The 19th and 20th of august, VAU RC Club Helsinki ,Finland hosted the 2006 Nordic Championship. The Nordics is an annual race but is rotated through four countries: Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark.

Friday’s organized practice started on time, but after 2 heats the rain came down and drenched the track; practice was over. The track was very difficult and practice was very important, so cancelling practice was really bad for drivers who had no experience at the track.

Qualification was a ‶1-man show,※ by Finnish driver Joseph Quagraine. He was the fastest driver and claimed the TQ position. I was in 2nd and Samuel Lenzi from Italy was in 3rd.

In semi-A, Joseph Quagraine took an easy win, leading from start to finish. Following him to the main were Fredrik Mathiesen, Robert Häggren (XRAY XB8-TQ), Petri Mylläri, Samuel Lenzi, and Tomas Lintula.

I started as nr.1 in semi-B, and managed to get a good clean start closely followed by Juha Sartusuo and Linus Thern. I kept my car on wheels and took the win in the semi. Following me from the semi were Linus Thern, Juha Sartesuo, Morten Thorkilssen (XRAY XB8TQ), Markuu Honkanen, and Ari Heinonen.

The main started well, with me keeping out of traffic and staying rubber-side down. A big starting crash in the second corner gave me and Joseph a lot of space, then Joseph took off like a rocket and I knew he was going to be very hard to beat. Joseph kept his lead up until the 25min mark, then suddenly he had some technical issues and had to pit. I overtook the lead. Knowing Joseph fairly well, I knew he was going to push hard to catch me, and also by doing that he was probably going to make some mistakes; I was just trying so hard to keep my lines and stay safe on the wheels. Unfortunately for Joseph, he had some more technical problems and was not able to catch up for the win. From the 30min mark I got into a safe lead and just went about staying safe… keeping out of trouble and in the end I got away with the win!
